At Sussex Outreach Support (SOS), we believe that everyone deserves access to the help they need — no matter where they live. That’s why we’re proud to announce the upcoming launch of our brand new Mobile Support Van — a fully equipped, multipurpose mobile hub designed to bring services, support, and community connection directly to rural and isolated areas of Rother.
Why a Mobile Hub?
Over the past two years, we’ve spent time listening to people in our rural communities — understanding their challenges, their strengths, and the barriers they face. One message came through clearly: it’s often hard to get the support you need when you live in a small or remote village. Transport is limited, services are far away, and for some, it can feel like help just isn’t meant for them.
With this in mind, and thanks to Levelling Up funding, we’re taking action. Our new electric Mobile Support Van will bring vital services to the heart of the community — reducing isolation, supporting wellbeing, and ensuring fairer access to early help, advice and even healthcare.
What Will the Mobile Van Offer?
This isn’t just a van — it’s a mobile lifeline. Purpose-built and now ready for its finishing touches, the van includes:
- A confidential clinical space to host pop-up GP or nurse appointments, mental health support, and health checks.
- An office space for advice sessions, one-to-one support, or digital inclusion workshops.
- Connectivity equipment that enables service delivery even in areas with no reliable internet.
- Plans for a mobile food pantry — to help tackle food insecurity and support community resilience.
- Potential to visit schools and other identified locations to run targeted support clinics.
It will serve as an extension of our existing rural hubs — reaching people who might otherwise miss out, and offering a friendly, familiar presence in local neighbourhoods.
A Community-First Approach
By working in partnership with the Rural Rother Primary Care Network, voluntary sector partners and statutory services, this mobile unit will allow us to deliver a joined-up, neighbourhood-based model of care and support. Crucially, it helps reduce the stigma often associated with seeking help — bringing services into community settings, rather than expecting people to come to us.
We know that early support makes all the difference — and our new van is all about meeting people where they are, both literally and figuratively.
Coming This September
We’re aiming to launch the mobile hub officially in September 2025, and we can’t wait to share it with the communities we serve. This van represents not just a new way of working — but a powerful symbol of what’s possible when we design services around people’s real lives.
